Dog seat belt law UK

Is it the law for dogs to wear seat belts?

In short, yes! It is under rule 57 of the Highway Code which states that all animals should be suitably restrained whilst in a moving vehicle. This can be enforced under the Road Traffic Act 1988 which could result in penalty points and a fine.

Lets have a look at the benefits...

No matter how well behaved your furry friend may be, they could still unintentionally distract you whilst driving, this is never a good thing!

No one likes to think about it, but accidents can happen to the best of us. Unfortunately, we can't control other drivers and their mistakes and the last thing we would ever want is for our furry friend to be injured. This could be especially hard if the worse was to happen when it could have been easily prevented.

A lot of dogs get car anxiety and we might not even know about it! Your dog will feel safer restrained and will feel a lot less vulnerable to the sudden movements of your car. Don't forget, you're expecting the car to move in a certain direction or speed but your dog isn't!
